Not the usual me, but i'm gonna let off a little steam....I am Very greatfull to the council, for atlast giving us central heating, a new front and back door, and new windows! (Well the heating is done so far!) so no icicles on my nose this year! But it doesnt rain but it pours! I have a loft that is absolutely head high is boxes, bags, tools you name it, its up there, especially since my dad has passed and i am not ready to get rid of everything! Anyway, i now have to have a complete house rewire! And wait for it, my loft has to be emptied!!! Never mind you say, empty the loft into the house, and when the loft is done put it back so they can do the rest of the house, that doesnt sound too bad does it! noooooo they want to do the whole house in one go , that means not only having to have a functioning house, with three kids, a puppy etc......i have to box up the house AND loft, where do they think i am gonna put it all!!! I have told them they will just have to wait till i am ready! They have given me atleast a month, but will give more if i need it!! Thanks for listening! I feel better now!x

First, totally understand your frustration. It is like as soon as someone puts on a 'Council' hat they leave common sense behind.
Normal families have stuff - they need somewhere to keep stuff. Doing a whole house at once not only a pain in terms of stuff but wont that make it a tad unsafe to live in while they are doing it?
If they wont present any other choice (you could try appealing for a staged project in writing and then going to Citizens Advice if they reject to see if anything can be done to make things more realistic).then storage is the only thing to suggest. Either at a friends, or at an acutal storage facility.
I know nothing about tenant law here so the only thing I would take from this post is that I agree with you that they are being a bit weird.

Unfortunantly under tenant law there is technicly nothing you can do (had an exam in it and its bloody boring not to mention stupid)
However my mom just had the same thing done and she was able to negotiate with the contractors to sort out a way of staging the project. hOpe you get it sorted

As if it is the most easiest thing for me to do!!!x

We were given two days to empty our loft to have extra insulation, we did so into our bedroom only to be told to leave the loft empty for a week incase an inspector came round. Unfortunatly we had to sleep somewhere so back in the loft i all went. You'll struggle through and it will be done before you know it.

I've no choice really, but emptying the loft is just the tedious part, but the whole house needs rewiring, that means empty loft, and all the bedrooms have to be packed so they can reach all sockets, where new sockets are going, and ofcourse lights and switches!! I have just purchased a new shed, so i can store some there! The rest is just gonna have togo in my amazing shrinking machine so i can fit it in my purse and take it out for the day!! Well we all have one of those dont we! I also forgot to mention, that my teens have a room to share, and i still share with my 7yo, so every inch of space is already full!!x I'll let you know how i get on!x

Get on to your councillor Fliss and quote the lastest human rights legislation from Europe. Don't forget - the right to enjoy one's family life The right to live in safety and security. If you need legal help - go to the Council and demand it as a tenant, even though they are the landlord (there is a beautiful karma to this). Good luck,

Don't know if this is available to you. but when they were doing extensive work in my house in bournville. they gave us a "spare house" down the road were we could stay or not ( our choice) while the work was being done. maybe the council could offer you a short stay? like they did us
Poshx

Thanks for all your comments guys! I have been given an extension of time, till november the 6th i think! And do you know what they have suggested?!!! A tent in the garden for storage!!
I have managed to give about 20bags to charity so far, so theres abit of good from it all, maybe a really good clearout is the way forward! I still have loads to get through, but atleast it is teaching me the art of spacial cleansing in the most literal way! I have to finish emptying my dads house this weekend, so i am trying not to feel too sentimental over his things, which is gonna prove a real test! I miss him!!x

I Have a date set!! First week in December! AAAAhhhh. But i must admit i have done so much sorting, and decluttering, my house will be empty by the time i can unpack again!! Very theraputic all that sorting! And the charity shop thinks i have set up camp! The amount of stuff i have donated, i could of opend my own shop!! I did end up investing in a shed and walk in green house though! (Only a plastic one!!) So fingers crossed i can start the new year with whats gonna seem like a new house!! I just hope they do a good job, as the new secure front door they gave me, broke after three days, and over a week later it still hasnt been fixed!!!
