Also known as scally onions, or scallions to some. I found a website that said that if you cut off the tip with the roots still attached and plant this, you'll get some lovely 'cut and come again' spring onions.
I love spring onions, especially in mashed potatoes, or cheese sandwiches, so I'm definitely going to be having a go at this.

I tried growing my own spring onions this year, but the slugs ate them all. And the garlic plants as well, I thought that was supposed to put them off? Just extra seasoning as far as they were concerned (And before anyone mentions beer traps, I caught the little f***ers hanging onto the edge of the tubs so they could drink the beer without falling in - I just gave up after that!)

That's why it is best to use jars as molluscs will have more difficulty getting out.
I'm a little unsure what you mean Rhi but did you mean just cut the top bits off like chives as that would kind of make more sense to me or am I having one of my dyslexic moments & misreading over & over again (which happens more frequently than I'd like to admit)
