2 cups cooked, mashed soya beans 1 cup cooked brown rice 1 onion 1 carrot 1 stick celery 2 tspns rice flour half cup wheatgerm 2 or 3 garlic cloves thyme & black pepper sesame seeds
grate all the veg and add rest of ingredients except sesame seeds. mix well & add more wheatgern if the mixture isnt stiff enough to form into burger shapes. pat into burgers on sesame covered board & fry in olive oil till nice n brown.
I like these as they use soya beans in natural state rather than dressed up as artificial meat
soya burgers are great in wholemeal bun with lashings of funky, tangy vegan coleslaw .

But please remember that eating too much soya can cause thyroid problems such as goiters and hyperactivity.

traditional soya products such as soya milk, tofu and soya beans are ok. the problem may be with products made from soya protein isolate but this has not been proved.

Yes it has been proved that there is a strong link between soya and goiters. I have the reference somewhere I will post it when I find it. Ned, eating too much of anything can be harmful but eating too much soya can be extremely damaging.

Eating too much anything can be extremely damaging. I just don't see why you need to jump at soya as opposed to other ingredients listed in the many other food/cooking threads.

depending on whose research you read soya is either a poison that causes thyroid problems or a wonder food tht lowers cholesterol & prevents breast cancer. as much of the research is funded by either the dairy industry or the soya producers i thik the truth is somewhere in between.
I have used soya products for 30 years with no problems . please dont be put off the soya burgers cos they really are yummy xx

They sound it I'll ditch the celery (because I find it icky > <) and switch the wheatgerm for oatgerm but having never tried bean burgers with thyme and sesame seeds I'm looking forward to them

Who wants their cholesterol lowering? It is a fact that people with LOW cholesterol are more likely to suffer heart attacks and strokes than people with high cholesterol. Yes enjoy soya in moderation but realise the risks.

You should eat what you want within reason, the most damaging things in food are generally e numbers & what phil says is right, one day something is a super food the next it is the worst thing in the world or vice versa. I can remember that with potatoes when they said they were bad for you & then heart disease specialists do research into plants which lower the risk of heart attacks & low & behold the potato is the new superfood again & they make a new heart drug out of the thing. And yes I have seen the evidence both for & against soya beans, I'm on the side of I will try them as they sound gorgeous but doubt they will form a large part of my diet as I like meat too much.

There is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol. www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/04/060403130444.htmRhiannon
