If you check out the ingredients on many flu relief mixtures, they're basically paracetomol, caffeine, vitamin C. You can make your own at home by having an espresso, two paracetomol and orange juice.

Get a large heatproof jug. Take two lemons and chop them up, four tablespoons of honey, and two of sugar. Place all the ingredients in the jug. Add boiling water and stir. When it is cool enough to drink, sit and sip slowly. The heat of the mixture should help clear your sinuses and the honey and lemon will ease your throat. The sugar gives you a little pep to help the aches. A hot wheat pillow also helps if you've got one. (No I don't mean in the jug, before you all rush to comment) You can't beat the classics!

It looks like something bitey worked its way into my bra, because there are dozens of little red blotches all round where the cups would be, which really itch. Drachenfach Bearing in mind you have got the virus of doom, do you think the blotches may be related? Have you had chicken pox, measles, etc?

That's a really good point Wyrdewood - the two may be related. Get to the GP Drach!

Chicken pox and measles start with spots behind the ears in most cases, have you got itchy spots behind your ears? Calamine lotion on the spots will help, whatever the illness. Make an infusion of sage for your throat, hot water poured over chopped sage and when it is cool, gargle with it, or you can use rosemary in the same way. An oil burner with a couple of drops of Eucalyptus oil will help to clear your breathing tubes at least for a while!!

Manflu? If it was that, you'd be off work for at least a week, limper than a digestive thats been dunked too long and convinced you need to go to A&E at any moment. I like to take the "it's only a scratch" approach to major injury and you wouldn't catch me wrapped in a quilt whimpering about death's door every time I get a cold. ( Nose starts growing)

The suggested route I have been told over the years through various studies is: At the very first feel of a sore throat start enchinechia drops twice a day and zinc lozenges with Vit C. Do this for only a max of 3 days, if you have not beat the virus by then you will not and continuing with treatment wont help and will just kill off your good bugs.
Woman may need to increase their active biocultures using this as enchinecha can cause yeast like discomfort for some. If youhave allergies to any of the enchinecha family do not use this method.
As for tackling runny nose etc I always found clear chicken soup with hot peppers in it did wonders.
One easy way to avoid getting exposed in the first place is to wash your hands. Most virus are spread through hand to hand contact or hand to object contact. If you disinfect your door handles, computer stuff, telephone, weights etc or wash your hands after touching anything in a shared office etc you will cut your exposure way down.

Be very careful with Echinacea, it is very easy to overdose on it and it can make you even more ill.
