;)Does anyone know of any kick start to a new diet? I don't mind if its magical, herbal or basically anyway actually! The basic eating side of things isn't the issue, i just need the will power and the enthusiasm to actually go to the gym! Any advice will be greatfully recieved, with my last diet i lost 6lb then put it all back on and more with avengence!xxx

I have dieted many a time before, the best way I found was to create certain goals for the week, obviously keep them realistic as you ain't going to 6lb each week so set a target roughly about 2-3lb a week. Switch to dark chocolate as most people can't eat as much of it as they can milk chocolate but it still satisfies cravings. Also cook everything from scrath don't get these low fat, low taste products as it tends to leave you disapointed with what you have just eaten & think is this how it's going to be from now on. Also drink lots of water as half the time some peoples body say hungry when they are actually thirsty. Most importantly love yourself for what you are don't be too harsh on yourself if you don't hit the targets you set & reward yourself when you do, but really be comfortable with yourself. I'm overweight & yes I could do with losing a couple of stone but I will do that at my own pace & when I'm ready as I know I'm not going to turn ugly overnight for just being a pound heavier than the day before.

My partner and I can't stand gyms so we started doing a 2 mile walk together every day. We also moderated the amounts we ate and supplemented things with bulkier, less fattening, foods to fill us up and increased the amount of fruit we eat. The three things combined has led to a loss of a stone in 8 weeks. It is far better to adapt slowly and lose the weight gradually as I think it stays off then. The main thing is, don't give yourself a hard time over it. I'd also stop eating with avengence, whoever she/he is, as they are a bad influence. (ducks as food comes flying my way)

Don't go on a low fat diet, what actually happens is your body will switch to 'famine' mode and start converting everything you eat to fat. A sensible calorie controlled diet will do it every time, (you can get calorie - counting books from WH Smith etc.). More water, fruit and fresh vegetables as has already been noted is very useful. Not a good idea to kick start a diet, take it slow and it will work out much better. If you are exercising you will probably put on a pound or two during the first few weeks, this is because you are converting fat to muscle and muscle is heavier than fat, this also will balance out. Sticking to a calorie controlled diet is a good way of changing to a healthy eating plan, too many people diet and then put the weight straight back on when they start eating 'normally' again. Trawl the second hand / charity shops and see if you can get a slow cooker, (my colleague bought one for £10 from Cancer Research) absolutely brilliant, pop everything in and leave it to cook all day and you have a lovely meal ready when you get home in the evening!! Slow cookers can be used overnight to cook porridge for breakfast too. Another tip is to chop carrots into sticks and keep them in the fridge, if you get peckish they are great for taking the edge off!! Celery is also good as it takes more calories to eat it than it actually contains!! I've got books of healthy eating recipes if you PM me your favourite kinds of food I'll try and match up some recipes for you.

What Gwen said - fruit and raw veg between meals and as pudding. Make a lovely fruit salad and put a blob of creme fraiche on the top - yummy. If you don't buy the biscuits, you can't eat the biscuits.
It's just a matter of being sensible. Balance your meals, but don't go mad calorie counting. It feels too much like a chore. You are a sensible girl, Fliss. You know by looking at something if it is wrong. Portion of pasta, rice, spuds or bread. Low fat cheese (emmental is good), lean meat or fish. Something green like a salad. Make a sauce (don't use packet stuff - too many chemicals). One damn fine meal. Loads of water fills you up.
I went down two dress sizes after having Jack, by simply having a smoothie for breakfast (just three/four pieces of fruit and semi milk), a salad and nice bread (rye is good) for lunch and then a BIG but BALANCED meal in the evening (something like above). Yes, I got hungry between, but just had fruit. Have fruit teas instead of normal and you're not getting the milk shots all day.
Variety is the word. Cook for yourself so you know what's in it. It is more fun too, and you can get the girls involved if they are that way inclined. Teaches them healthy eating. You can even find low fat/low sugar recipes for biccies and puds which won't go straight to your hips. I used a diabetic cook book coz the recipes are low in both of those things (my dad's a diabetic and mom bought us all a cookbook so we could do things for him, but just use it for me!)
Good luck, sweetheart. (Have put on three quarters of a stone in the last year just with beer - all Barry's fault!)

A gym buddy is essential. They will pep you up and keep you motivated when all you want to do is slob out.

Another tip, try not to eat empty calories such as white bread, eat granary bread or any multi - grain, wholemeal pitta breads are good, wholemeal pasta and brown rice. You can do your body a great favour just by cutting the number of processed foods you eat!!
