I don't know how many of you do digital artwork but I found this programme through an artists forum site I am on. It is a free package that you can load a photograph or any other picture onto and then use virtual brushes and other tools to turn the original picture into a watercolour or oil painting!! It's great fun even if you can't paint!! www.ambientdesign.com/artrage.html

You can't paint in photoshop the way you can with this programme, in photoshop you can just change the picture to what looks like brush strokes but aren't............. I think perhaps a person would need to know something about painting with different mediums to understand Duane.

I'm not saying you can't use it to paint, I'm saying that as an artist you can use ArtRage in a totally different way to photoshop. Photoshop was invented to touch up photos not as an artists tool. You can't get a sense of real media like oil paints unless you use a knife to lay the paint on, you can't do that in the same way with Photoshop. Nor can you naturally blend colours in photoshop, you end up with a distinction between colours and not a real blend, try it, you will see how easy it is to layer paint and mix colours on the canvas, getting distinct layers and fresh colour mixes. As I said, it is a great programme to play around with if you have some artisitic knowledge, or if you want to experiment and learn about art. Try the Tempera setting and see the colours glow as you overlay them, photoshop tends to wipe whats underneath, unless you use layers and then you can't blend properly. I'm not saying it's better than photoshop, just different to.

ehm, you can blend layers in photoshop quite well, you'd be suprised what you can do with just two or three layers overlaping each other. i will give that program a try though, i've been into art for over 7 years now,
I can only draw battle scenes from ST spechally the scenes in the dominion wars.

And how much does CS and CS2 cost to buy Duane? And how much does ArtRage cost? If you can afford to buy Cs all well and good but ArtRage is an amazing package for NOTHING!!!
