I'm trying to thread acorns, and everytime I try and push the needle through, the acorn splits. Does anyone know any tricks or methods I can use to make an acorn necklace?

Rhi,
Are you going straight through the acorn? The reason I ask is that I had a vision of threading the acorn from the top down, right through the centre.
Worth a try if nothing else. Good luck

Rhiannon - a couple of ideas, don't know if they will work, but who knows. You could try putting something like masking tape over site first. OR you might try making a hole with a paper clip (opened out obviously!!) which has been heated up over a gas flame. The latter works a treat with fingernails. (No, I'm not a reincarnated member of the inquisition - did they have paper clips? - I did this when working in A & E to release bloodblisters! Nice).

Thanks for those tips Eleanor. I'll give them a go.
I am trying to thread from the top through to the bottom, but someone has suggested stringing them side on, so I'll give that a go too.

I thread them side-on, still in their acorn cup. You need a very strong needle - a fine curved leather-working needle is best of all, and the acorns need to be very fresh. I suppose you could soak them for a little while if they've dried out a bit. Then it's a matter of going through the cup, acorn, and out the other side through the cup again. And linen thread is good as it is less prone to snapping at awkward moments and causing ... well, let's call it a 'cross moment' Worked for me... Weaver
