Periodically I get visits to the shop from different churches and radical groups. Today, first thing, I had a visit from the Jesus Army. They looked around for a bit and muttered between themselves as they noted the Pentagrams, Staves, Wands, Athames and altar cloths. They headed over to the door and one of them turned and said" you are a bastard defiler of all things holy", and left. ;D About half an hour later I had a visit from a seventh day adventist who did much the same but said " you are a son of Baphomet", and left. ;D Now the funny thing is, on the one hand, I am told I am fatherless and then, on the other, I am kindly made aware of who my father is. It is so considerate of these people to make me laugh AND have concerns for my heritage!!!!

Isn't it so good of them to not judge you though? These people think themselves to be so righteous and yet judge you without so much as a single word, you may after all have been only working in the shop, lets face just because you work in any particular shop it does necessarily mean that you are a believer in the things you are selling, vegetarians work in fish shops etc, so I find it so pathetic of these pillocks to firstly judge you on your beliefs and also to presume that these are indeed your beliefs, ok I'm ranting so I will leave it there!

No it shouldn't be in jokes and funnies - it is just very very sad.
Any form of evangelism is, to my mind, at best, a statement of insecurity. At worst and where the evangelist exercises power over the convert, it is a crime. [Probably called Deicide ]
For me it is significant that most of us on this forum found our way here all by ourselves.

Maybe its fear! That makes these people react the way they do.
As with most "main stream religions" they have been (in the most part) indoctrinated since childhood with their belief systems.
Most everyone believed in Father Christmas until they are old enough to "work it out for themselves" then they realize they have been duped all along. (not wishing to infer that other peoples religions are not valid to them)
But fear of divine retribution and also the fear that by delving into other beliefs, they may start to question that they have been taught??
Better to close their eyes and ears, than to open their hearts and minds.

Keep safe - it's not so long ago that people had windows put through for daring to admit to being a pagan or witch.

Keep safe - it's not so long ago that people had windows put through for daring to admit to being a pagan or witch. Funny you should say that as someone I met at the weekend was telling me about a shop that opened in Bridgnorth. On opening day it was plaqued by a crowd of people handing out leaflets, singing hymns and trying to block the doorway. The next day the owner arrived to find the front window smashed.

I think it's curious that they arrived in such a short time of each other. Maybe they are working together.....? But then, you would think they'd get their stories the same. It is very sad that people can't accept others and what they believe. And it's a good thing that you can smile after one of their visits. Turning the other cheek, perhaps?? Or let he who is without sin cast the first stone?? Can you tell it's been a long time since I read the Bible? Maybe I should rectify that.

The timescale was more coincidence than anything. On average I get about 2 - 3 visits a month from different groups. They also seem to be annual returns, so I can only assume that they diarise to return to see if they have had any effect. The giveaway sign is usually somewhere on a lapel or pocket in the form of a badge or symbol. The Jesus Army, for example, have a sloping red cross. What makes me crease up is the thought of them meeting up with Jesus (not that I believe in him) to have him say "Army!! What part of love, peace and goodwill did you not understand" The best threat was from someone who wanted to call the Police, convinced I wasn't allowed to have Athames on show. I thought they would burst they were so red faced, when they got told to "Go away and stop wasting Police time", by the local "Super".

Call the council and make a complaint, you are carrying on a legitimate business and they have no right to interfere with it!!

OK, let's see if I've got this straight. The Jesus Army guys thought they had to be all brave and make some kind of a moral stand against you ......... but only when they were safely at the door? Aaaw, bless their little cotton socks
