What is it about this time of year that brings the worst out in people. The other day I had the misfortune to have to go into town (Worcester) to get a few presents and was surprised at the panic and ignorance of fellow shoppers. People were jumping queues, bumping into others with no apology, getting aggressive and impatient with staff and generally being quite miserable. On the other hand, I come to sleepy Ledbury and watch as people stop dead in their tracks to let you cross the road, give a cheery "hello" to strangers and seem to be enjoying the whole experience. I came over the Malverns this morning, which were capped in frost, with all the trees looking like they had been dusted with icing sugar and my partner, Tree, was taken over with emotion at how beautiful it was. I think the solution would be to move all the angry people from Worcester to British Camp so they can chill out a bit and enjoy Mother at her best! On that note, a Merry Solstice to everyone wherever you are this beautiful crisp Yuletide.

Having just done the big supermarket shop, I can completely sympathise with you, Julian. Being in a festive mood, I was all set for a jolly time choosing food and drink for the next umpteen days, and presumed everyone else would be the same. Pah! Miserable, ignorant, rude, antagonistic......... and that was just the staff. I was even forced to play the "pregnant woman card" down the cheese isle - wide load, this vehicle is reversing, move or I'll flatten you. I was crushed, pushed, harrassed, growled at and frowned upon. Trolley rage?? Most definately. I came out feeling most deflated. Had to have a mince pie to cheer myself up........

I've just come down from British Camp at the Malverns after watching the Solstice sunrise and all the mayhem seems like a distant memory. I just need to thaw out a bit and everything will be rosy again. Life is focused once more.
