Did anone read the daily mail account of stonehenge this summer and the foolish antics of King Arthur and his fellows makes pagans look very stupid. The story was on the DM website as Midsummer Madness. Whilst one may expect a bias report from the mail this was to true to what happens sadly with these people who claim to be pagan and honouring mother earth not sure why they bother really.

I was at stone henge that night for the solstice and although i did meet Arthur and he had had a few to drink. I found the people there very friendly and mostly well behaved. reading that report it sounds like a different place to were I was?
The pagan's mentioned in that report ( with the expection of Aurthur) were mainly set apart from the stones and were performing songs and cerebration's most of the night.
in fact one of the highlights of the night for me was watching in wonder as the little tiny children were dancing on the large area provided for pagan cerebration's without a care in the world being very well looked after by the people around them.
I had my robes on and people were coming up to me and asking questions and wanting to take pictures with me to show to their family and friends and just know more.
I'm sure there were people who were "out of order" and just there to party. but speaking for myself. I found it really enchanting that so many people could congregate in one area, 24000 people and only 4 arrests for minor offenses. says a lot really. I walk around for hours on my own and never once felt threatened.
I can understand pagans standpoint were they say that non pagans do not respect the stones. but I have never in my life been to a event were everyone was so friendly and just wanted to mix and do no one any harm.
The age group was from 80 to 8 mths and people from all over the world.
my husband who is a non pagan said afterward he was convince he was going to be Bored silly. but he said it was amazing and he wants to go again next year.
so everyone see's it with different eyes, and as the saying goes you can't believe everything you read in the papers.

Newspapers reporters have a fixed view on paganism and that's what they report, whether it happened or not. Ever heard the saying about not letting the truth get in the way of a good story?

Arthur should of had the self control to lay off the booze at least until after the ritual, especially since he knew the press were likely to seek him out.

I found it really enchanting that so many people could congregate in one area, 24000 people and only 4 arrests for minor offenses. Everyone in the media always likes to make a fuss about any gathering that is different from the "norm". Statistically, if you put 24000 people in one place, with some having had a drink, you should have lots more arrests. I mean, if you put 24000 in any town centre on a Saturday night I think the number of arrests would be off the scale. Similarly, there is the nonsense about someone dying at Glastonbury festival this year. Again, statistically, 153000 in one place for four days and there should have been an average of 4 deaths at least! My Grandfather always said of the press, "trust no-one,question everything and believe nothing". It will be interesting to read the account written from a Pagan perspective.

Arthus is an embarassing drunk who is surrounded by sycophants who encourage him to believe his own press.
(this is my own personal view and not the view of the Pagan Association!)

There was a young chap with him, when i spoke to him at Stonehenge who was writing a book about England/Britain and the more strange section of life, beliefs and people within our country. well i think he hit the jackpot with Arthur, an eccentric he certainly is!!! Poshx

I "think" im correct in saying that Arthur Pendragon went to prison for six months for the right for pagan's to wear swords and athames in ritual may be that would be a good article for the pagan times? As a famous pagan verse says "and if harm none do as you will" and as the other books says "let him who is without sin cast the first stone!" Yep he not perfect?? but who is? Think its time to put this one to bed my opinion not the P.A Poshx

I don't see any reason why Arthur couldn't be interviewed for the pagan times. After all - the opinion I stated was mine, not the PAs.
Posh - the time Arthur spent in prison was to do with his land protests. He has spent a small amount of time in jail for carrying his sword, and yes, he is one of the court cases that is stated as a defense should pagans ever have to make representation to the courts about carrying a sword.
I WOULD LIKE TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT CARRYING ANY OFFENSIVE WEAPON IN PUBLIC INCLUDING ATHAMES IS STILL AGAINST THE LAW!! (It is one of the few cases where guilt can be presumed by the police, and we have to prove the religious connection - you have been warned!)

Actually having an interview with him for the mag, may be a good idea. As when i was speaking with him at the solstice, he was telling me that he was a 3rd degree of path which i will omit.
but it would be interesting to get his view on a wiccan path and a druid path and maybe ask for his comparisons or not as the case may be.

Hello Gary, Good to see you here. I'm just back from holiday and have just waded through 93 postings including yours, on another site. Many to do with this man.
I have to say that I've found this board to be one of measured thought, intelligent discussion and a LOT of fun [well most of the time] I'm sorry to see the "Arthur Issue" here at all.
I met him for the first time at the PF camp a couple of weeks back, where [on this single contact] I saw no redeeming feature. I wrote a lot more but have deleted it - I would like to put the individual from my mind.
Mordred
well Pat really!
