I can't stand the smell of Lush shops either - they don't do themselves any favours ponging like that! I'm sure lots of us don't go in there because of the smell....it seems very unnatural and chemical....not what they intend, I'm sure!

I find the smell too over-powering. I don't know what I would be like if I worked there. The shampoo I use is Herbal Essences and I find that it leaves my hair nice and smooth. But that is how my hair is and everyone differs. BB.

Not being funny but where do you people get the time to make your own shampoo and stuff? I can't find enough hours in the day as it is without making stuff!!

What on earth am I doing on THIS thread. Oh yes - I have short hair and "styling" consists of a once a day comb unless I want to impress then I comb it again. [Does anyone remember "Cookie" ? - think of a pair of 7's!] As I gave up trying to impress a long time ago, I can probably get away with anything but I use water, no soap no shampoo even after a thoroughly sweaty time [such as cutting up wood!] Graem Garden told me that about thirty years ago when he presented a popular science TV prog. On it a girl with the most magnificent mane of red hair hadn't used anything but water for 8 weeks and it looked fantastic. I often wonder if she ever bought shampoo again.

If you just want the recipies will need to know hairtype. The book is small and old but very useful, if you make enough maybe I'll buy some from you!!!

I make virtually everything - here's a basic shampoo recipe
100ml liquid castile soap 20 drops essential oil* of your choice
*Normal Hair - Rosemary, Cedarwood, Geranium, Lavender, Sweet Orange. *Oily Hair - Bergamot, Cedarwood, Cypress, Geranium, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime. *Dry Hair - Frankincense, Geranium, Lavender, Palmarosa, Sandalwood.
Shake it all up - voila!
If you don't have liquid castile soap readily available you could substitue it for other pure as possible liquid soap.
You can make infusions with various herbs and add this to the liquid soap too.
If anyone wants a specific recipe pm me and I'll sort one out for you.

I've got some soapwort growing in my garden, it's still not that big but I'm hoping eventually to make my own herb infusion/shampoo from that. Another one that I've tried and wasn't too bad was a mix of a strong rosemary infusion with a teaspoon of borax - very watery but I can run enough of it through my hair to get it clean.
I know other people have used bicarbonate of soda, but that just dries my hair out like crazy - not sure I'd recommend it.
