Once again I have had to move my driving test because I am still not ready. Staring to think I will never figure it out. Took me ages back home on an automatic but as they are not common (or cheap) here have been trying on a stick. After 7 months of lessons I just feel I should be doing better by now. Instead I end last lesson with several major no no's and wanting to cry (which I HATE). Argh

Keep death off the roads BAN WOMEN DRIVERS!!!! Just before I run off and hide behind whatever I can find so as to block the stick I am expecting, keep your head up Eva, it will all come right in the end and lets face it, if you did it in Canada then there really is no reason why you shouldn't be able to do it here, just relax

Keep going, Marie. It took me I can't remember how many lessons and three tests to get my licence. My mother says I drive like a man now - although, I do tend to use my indicators and stay in lane at roundabouts, so not much like one then.......... haha. And I can reverse park better than a bloke as well.

It took me three tests as well. You'll be finding it hard because you have to "unlearn" all the habits you've picked up over the years.
You KNOW you can do it. Have you tried rescue remedy?

Bet you cant As Rhiannon said there really is no problem with passing a test in an automatic, as yes when you work out the extra cost of lessons compared to the extra cost of the car, there probably isn't that much difference. Another thing you could look at are these 1 week crash courses, this might be a better way of doing it for you because at least this way it is an intense course with the test straight after it, so you learn all there is to learn and then do the test and it don't give you time to forget or even get nervous Still think ALL women should be banned though ;D

Women are much better drivers than men, that's a fact!! Marie, you have to think about why you want to drive, don't do it because you want to conveniently get from A to B, do it because you want to enjoy driving!! You seem to be blocking yourself by thinking of it as being a mechanical skill, it's not, it BECOMES a mechanical skill when you have been driving for a while. How much practice are you getting between lessons? Do you meditate and centre yourself before a lesson or a practice drive? I used to hate driving lessons because I drove around aimlessly until my driving instructor started to plan journeys with me and I would complete a 'task' for each lesson. This consisted of going to get petrol, parking at the supermarket and other such menial but necessary tasks. Soon found I was concentrating on getting there, rather than what my feet were doing, which helped enormously!!

Ian, you're not fighting your corner very well, old chap. If you can't tell the difference between me and Rhiannon, then I tremble to think what mistakes you make out on the road! *sticks out tongue* OK I will give you that one, the only reason I got it wrong and missread it was because I was laughing so much over what Merrybel had posted about doing it better than men!! Come on be serious now. Sorry Glyn but statistically that may be true but, statistics only record the actual accident not the stupid woman driver who caused it by, driving in the middle lane of the motorway at 60mph, meaning that the man has to overtake so causing the other car to brake and so on and causes an accident somewhere down the road, and the little lady goes about her business as if nothing has happened, statistically the man had the accident, yes, but it was the bloody womans fault and this happens in so many cases in different circumstances but time and time again it is the man whos insurance gets clobbered, imho and if you dont agree then you are wrong simple as that

I rest my case. As someone that has a license to drive a bike, a car, a forklift, a hgv, I can honestly say that I have not stalled any vehicle for years, head on crash on my bike yes, but not stalled And as for the cost of insurance, what a joke, you know the last time I enquired about an insurance quotation, I put in my details and got a quote of something like £330, I then put in my details again only this time I put Julie down as a named driver, now bear in mind that she has only got a provisional license to ride her motorbike and has never driven a car in her life, and guess what the quote came back at £312, what a joke, it is pathetic

Bet you cant I bet she can reverse park better then me. Being how I can't drive and all. ;D I was going to learn. But my 'friends' ran round screamng till I changed my mind. I don't see why being easily distracted by shiny things should mean I'm not allowed to drive.

No Ian, you are the one that's wrong!! Women are better drivers, men have accidents because they drive badly, not because of women drivers!! Men drive too fast for the road conditions, take stupid risks and brake too late, maybe not all of them, but the majority do! That is the reason that insurance companies are more inclined to insure women cheaper than men. That's fact, not your kind of wishful thinking!!

I was run into last year at red traffic lights by a woman who was talking on her mobile phone and putting makeup on at the same time. The police were not convinced about it being OK for women to do this as they are better at multi tasking than men.

And I've been run into by a man eating a sandwich and reading an A-Z!!
I think there is probably an arguement against both sexes here. No one is infallible. However, whenever I am nearly pushed off the road by someone who can't seem to understand what the white lines are for or where their indicators are, it is ALWAYS a bloke in a high powered penis extension.

We are not going to have an internet argument on this subject, are we? I won't be forced to point and laugh at anyone for taking the internet too seriously, will I? No? Good. Oh yes we bloody well are!! ;D I have to say that you are correct on this issue, and they should all be made to drive Robin Reliants for 12 months (wankers) Come on Glyn, what colour are the trees on your planet today, if you think men are better than women at ANYTHING ;D I, some time ago did a course to be a driving instructor, on having passed the first 2 sections of the course I was asked by one of the examiners to take a group of people out who were struggling to come to terms with the driving part of the course, this was two men and a woman, now dont get me wrong all of these three people hadf full driving licenses, they were on the course to learn how to teach other people to drive, now believe me the men were not very good (to say the least) but while I was instructing the woman (she driving), I told her to turn right from a side road onto a dual carriageway, she did this but instead of going across the first half of the road, accross the centre piece and onto the correct side of the road, she decided to turn onto the wrong side of the dual carriageway and I had to phsycally grab hold of the steering wheel and turn the car onto the correct side of the road, and this from someone that was a qualified driver, not a learner. So I think the point I am trying to make overall is that, it isn't whether it is a man or a woman that is driving, it is the individual, man or woman, that can be a good driver or a very bad one, I just feel that it is unfair that insurance companies are prpared to lower a quote just because a woman (who cannot and never has driven) is named on the policy edited by admin in a flagrant abuse of personal power because she can! Ian - have a slapped wrist for deliberate provocation.
