Having workedin mental health for 19 years its an unfortunate truth that everything revolves around money and whether the treament has been shown to be 'evidence based' in effectively treating the problem. Unfortunately I've never met an evidence based human being! Other than the severe psychoses medication only usually helps temporarily if at all. Most human crises usually happen for a reason and that often resolves itself in time but during that time loving, caring relationships of family / friends are the best treatment as they provide a safety net whilst the individual goes through that difficult time.

Having had a mental health problem for most of my Adult life brought on by a Job I loved and was very good at. last year I was sent by my new GP for grief counselling as I was told I had not got over the death of my wife of over 30 years. Only to be told at the first session that grief was not my main problem but it was the things I had seen and done over the main part of my adult life, and was suffering from PTSD. anyone who knows me in the real world will tell you I have a very direct way a dealing with things and have undertaken some very strange past time's.Now dealing with things and just coming off the chemicals to return back to normal(ha ha) self. seems Mental Health service is down to were you live, I only waited 3 weeks to see some one after my GP, I have noticed that a lot of Pagans have had some kind of mental trauma in the past but that's just my opinion

Hi Ob - I'm no expert but I think sometimes knowing and, perhaps more importantly, accepting that there is a problem is where we can begin to find some kind of healing.
You may be interested in my earlier post about whether pagans who have suffered mental trauma or illness subconsciously seek paganism out because it can offer them healing.

I think i must me the only one to have a positive thing to say about the Mental health care i received It took time and i admit the counseling was a bit of a flop but once i have been assigned a psychologist and then refereed to a psychotherapist it was great i was able to start my life again and have come on leaps and bounds. I have even been taking counseling courses myself. I have a huge list of different therapists and counseling agencies in my portfolio Just don't have back yet will see if i can dig up the info again Found this sight though might help www.siari.co.uk/Self-harm_Self-Injury_Information_for_teenagers_and_young_people.htm
