Personally I think we need all this rain to replenish the underground water supplies that have been grossly depleted over the last few years. The main problems as I see it, have been caused by drains and culverts being blocked and, so I hear on the news, some arseholes who stole the flood barriers and sold them for scrap!! I hope they got flooded out and lost everything!! I just worry about the Thatcher attitude that seems to be rearing its ugly head again, the 'those people who aren't insured should get nothing' types, who haven't opened up their brains to realise that most of the flooded out people can't get insurance!! No-one can plan for freak weather!!

Are people really stupid enough to think that the insurance companies are going to foot the several billion pounds repair bill themselves? Of course not, all of us are going to face higher premiums next year, even those of us who live on the top of hills, such as me and my parents. If insurance companies have to pay out, we all lose.
I feel desperately sorry for those who have no insurance. Having to start again must be terrible. For those who do have insurance, I imagine that premiums are going to rocket to the point where it becomes unviable to buy the insurance, or companies will simply refuse to insure them.
Amidst all the doom mongers and bad news so beloved by our British newspapers, there have been stories of incredible kindness and bravery, patience and support by those in trouble. I wish the papers would concentrate on the positives instead of the negatives.

Yes Rhiannon - we've had some families here affected by flooding ; it's been awful but what they are taking away with them is the love and support and new friends that have arrived with the flood waters. It doesn't undo the damage but it does make it more bearable!
I'm sure the people who are attempting to dupe the insurance companies will find it comes back on them in some way - you can't deceive without that deception affecting your very soul/spirit.
